The University of Nairobi Postharvest Research team conducted a practical training from 1st to 3rd February 2022 for various stakeholders in the food supply chain.  The practical training was a continuation of the intensive training on Postharvest Food Loss and Waste Reduction: Towards Sustainable Food Systems. The training was funded by the Capacity Building in Food security for Africa (CABFOODS-Africa) project.

The CABFOODS-Africa Project is a collaborative initiative between University of Pretoria, University of Nairobi, University of Ghana and other private sector actors in the food sector under ARUA Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food Systems.

The purpose of the capacity building initiatives under the CABFOODS-Africa project is to increase knowledge and awareness about the problem of postharvest food loss and waste and available solutions to address the problem.

The trainees had already undertaken the theory part of the training which was conducted in May 2021.

The practical session featured small-scale processing of fruits, vegetables, meat and milk. The trainees were also trained on proper postharvest handling practices and technologies to preserve quality of harvested fruits and vegetables.
