On 14th April 2026 at the University of Nairobi, Kenya marked a significant moment in its security history as Amb. Dr . Monica Juma transitioned from her role as the country’s first National Security Advisor to serve within the United Nations system. Her tenure symbolized a shift in Kenya’s security approach, moving from secrecy to a more transparent, people-centered framework anchored in the 2010 Constitution.

Under her leadership, the Office of the National Security Advisor was established to promote accountability, coordination, and citizen-focused security. Drawing on global best practices and guided by the President’s vision, she helped position Kenya as a key player in regional and international security efforts while strengthening collaboration across government institutions.

As she handed over the baton, Joseph Boinnet pledged to uphold her legacy, affirming commitment to the strategic direction she set and to serving both national and global interests with integrity and patriotism.

The transition, hosted at the University’s Institute for Development Studies, underscored the vital link between academia and public service.

In her remarks, Prof. Maria Nzomo praised Amb. Juma’s exemplary service and wished the incoming leadership success.

Amb. Juma leaves behind a strong foundation defined by reform, cooperation, and vision marking the end of a historic chapter and the beginning of a new role on the global stage.
