There is good progress towards the implementation of University of Nairobi Science and Engineering Complex(SEC). This was revealed by Mr. Bertrand Willocquet, the new AFD Kenya County Director when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Stephen Kiama Gitahi.

Mr. Bertrand informed the Vice Chancellor that AFD is waiting for UoN to sign the subsidiary agreement with the National Treasury before the actual implementation of the project starts. He however noted that the Academic collaboration agreement between the University of Nairobi and the French Universities –Paristech and Paris Saclay has been signed to facilitate capacity building and curriculum development.

By September 2022, the project will receive an industry and academia expert to support the operationalization of industry academia partnership in the complex this will be done through the support of French embassy.

The Science and Engineering Complex is expected to revolutionize Science and Engineering training in Africa. It will benefit from the synergy of housing natural sciences, technology and engineering programs under one roof. Students will also benefit from the interaction with the Industry in the complex.

Present during the meeting were Mr. Brian Ouma, Chief Operations Officer, John Orindi, Director of Corporate Affairs and Ms. Anne Nkoidila from the Directorate of University Advancement. The AFD Country Director was accompanied by Mr. Loran Meme, Program Officer and Dr. Guerin Mathieu, the Education Attache at the French Embassy.
