University of Nairobi hosted a Technical Mission to Kenya by Ndunduma Higher Polytechnic
The University of Nairobi (UoN) has held discussions with a delegation from the Ndunduma Higher Polytechnic Institute of Angola to explore opportunities for academic, research and institutional collaboration, with particular focus on agriculture, engineering, technology, business and community development.
The meeting held at the University of Nairobi Tower’s Council Chamber, brought together representatives from the University of Nairobi, the Angolan delegation, and Kenya’s State Department for Higher Education. Discussions focused on identifying areas of mutual interest and developing a framework for long-term cooperation between the two institutions.
Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering emerged as key areas of mutual interest. Located in central Angola, ISPN is the only institution in its region offering Agricultural Engineering. It has an agricultural research and experimental centre that supports practical training, soil analysis and research.
UoN identified opportunities for joint research in agricultural engineering, soil science, sustainable land management and technology transfer, as well as staff and student exchanges.
The Angolan delegation also highlighted the Lobito Corridor, a major regional infrastructure project linking Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Angolan Government is seeking to expand the corridor’s benefits beyond mineral transportation by strengthening agricultural value chains, logistics and community skills development. ISPN is involved in a pilot agricultural initiative along the corridor and expressed interest in UoN’s expertise in supporting research and capacity building.
Other areas discussed included business and management, law, education, ICT, health sciences, psychology, community education and adult learning. The institutions also saw potential for joint work on women’s empowerment and community development, drawing from ISPN’s literacy and entrepreneurship programme for women.
Language was identified as a challenge to student and staff mobility between the two countries. UoN expressed interest in strengthening Portuguese language training and support for Portuguese-speaking students to facilitate exchanges.
As a next step, the two institutions will establish a joint working team to consolidate the agreed areas and prepare a cooperation document for consideration and approval by the respective institutions.
The engagement provides a foundation for stronger Kenya–Angola academic relations, with the potential to advance research, skills development, innovation and practical solutions to shared development challenges.
