The University of Nairobi held a free medical camp to commemorate the annual Mental Health Awareness Day.

The event was held under the theme: “Making mental health and well-being for all a global priority.”

The free medical camp attracted a crowd of both students and staff who participated in various health tests and consultations. Services such as rehabilitation awareness, alcohol and drug abuse consultations from the various rehabilitation associations, as well as counselling services for psychological disorders and sexual and reproductive health were offered to the attendees.

Furthermore, health tests such as VCT testing, Cancer Screening; Breast, Cervical and Prostate, Blood Sugar Testing, Blood Pressure Testing, Cardiovascular Evaluation, and eye-examination.

These services were offered by specialists from UHS a health service under the University of Nairobi, The Aga Khan University Hospital, Affinity Rehabilitation Centre, PolkaDots rehab, Blessed Medical Centre, Oasis Healthy Specialty RV Hospital, CHG, The Retreat Rehab, Lvct, M.P Shah Hospital, Marie Stopes and The Nairobi Women’s Hospital, O3Plus and RADA app.

October is marked as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. The University of Nairobi positions itself at the forefront of supporting this noble course. Therefore Breast Cancer screening was made available by UHS as well as The Aga Khan University Hospital, and a Non-profit Organization BookStand Circle that raises awareness for Breast Cancer and helps in financial aid to those who cannot afford the treatment services.
