UoN Champions a Drug-Free Lifestyle Through “Talanta Bila Uraibu” Campus Soccer Tournament
The University of Nairobi, in partnership with Masese Za Abdala & Rapture Resource Agency, hosted the vibrant "Talanta Bila Uraibu" Campus Soccer Tournament at the Main Campus Sports Grounds. Organized through the University’s Directorate of Sports, this two-day event held on the 12th and 13th aimed to promote a drug-free lifestyle among students through the power of sports.
The tournament is part of a broader initiative to combat drug and substance abuse by engaging the youth in positive, community-centered activities. It drew students, partners, and stakeholders together in a shared mission to inspire change and nurture personal excellence.
The event was honored by the presence of Davis Lumwatu, Commandant of the National Police Service College, Embakasi Campus. In his keynote address, he underscored the vital role of sports in youth development and emphasized that living a drug-free life is a crucial step toward unlocking one’s full potential. He pledged continued support for the University’s efforts in addressing the challenges of drug abuse among students.
Mr. Abdala Kaka, CEO of Masese Za Abdala & Rapture Resource Agency, reiterated the organization’s dedication to working with the University in transforming young lives through sport and community outreach. He emphasized that their shared mission—to eradicate drug and alcohol abuse—perfectly aligns with the University’s vision of nurturing a responsible, empowered, and drug-free generation.
Rose Marete, Acting Director of Sports & Games at the University of Nairobi, highlighted the significance of strategic partnerships in enhancing the impact of sports-based interventions. She noted that sports not only cultivate talent but also serve as a vital tool for mentorship and behavior change. Marete called on the wider community to support such initiatives in building a brighter, healthier future for the youth.
The "Talanta Bila Uraibu" Campus Soccer Tournament stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved through unity, purpose-driven engagement, and a collective commitment to guiding the youth toward lives of impact, resilience, and purpose.
