Prof. Kiama, Governor Lenku hold consultative meeting ahead of One Health Lab launch

A consultative meeting was held between the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi Prof. Stephen Kiama, Kajiado County Governor H.E. Joseph ole Lenku, his Deputy Hon. Martin Moshisho, and the PI of the HORN Project Prof. Mathew Baylis.

The purpose of the meeting was to brief the two main principals on the status of the project ahead of the launch of a refurbished One Health laboratory in Oloitoktok in Kajiado County.

History as UoN Conducts Examinations Remotely

The University of Nairobi has today achieved a milestone by successfully conducting its first ever end of semester examinations online.

More than 20 students taking Master of Arts in Environmental Law and Master of Arts in Environmental Policy were able to sit for their examinations right from the comfort of their homes.

The university shifted to online examinations in order to provide students with options to complete their studies at a time when face-to-face exams are impossible to be held because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

UoN ranks top in Graduate employability

University of Nairobi graduates are the most preferred by Kenyan employers.

This was revealed by CPS International, a marketing and social research firm that surveyed 67 universities and 50 organizations between November and January in 2019/2020 academic year.

In an article published in the Daily Nation and the Standard Newspaper on Thursday May 7th,  the University of Nairobi graduate employability was 38.6% followed by Kenyatta University 30%, Moi 25%, JKUAT 19%, Egerton 18%, Maseno 18% and Technical University at 10%.

UoN Staff active in fight against coronavirus

The University of Nairobi staff has been very actively involved in the fight against coronavirus, says the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama. 

UoN vice-chancellor said researchers were burning the midnight oil to find a solution to the pandemic through different approaches.

“University of Nairobi researchers are also writing proposals for research grants required for arresting Covid-19,” Kiama said in a memo dated April 1 to staff and students. 

Latest Report on Desert Locust Situation

In latest reports released on March 10, 2020 by FAO the desert locust situation in Kenya is widespread swarm breeding continues in northern and central counties where an increasing number of hopper bands and first-generation immature swarms are forming. This may be supplemented by new-generation immature swarms arriving from Somalia. Further concentration is expected in Marsabit and Turkana. Aerial and ground control operations continue.

EABL senior women mentor female students

University of Nairobi female students had a rare opportunity to engage senior women employees from East Africa Breweries Limited, EABL who encouraged them to chart their own path since life doesn’t have a manual.

Female students were being mentored by senior women from EABL as part of the spirited women international women’s day celebrations. The event happened on March 4, 2020.
